The Houston Dash battled against dreary weather and an even tougher opponent in their midweek 3-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park.
Chicago got on the board early and provided all the firepower in Wednesday night’s contest. The Red Stars scored two goals over a four-minute span to take control of the match.
In the seventh minute, Red Stars defender Samantha Johnson played the ball towards the far post and Kristie Mewis slid towards deflected the ball into her own net.

In the 11th minute, Red Stars forward Sofia Huerta shot from in close was denied by Jane Campbell. Lauren Kaskie pounced on the rebound and tucked her strike into the back of the net for her first NWSL goal.

The Dash began the second half with a different tone. Kristie Mewis and Rachel Daly looked to spark Houston’s offense beginning the attack on both flanks. Kimberly Keever and Amber Brooks led the Dash both registering two shots on goal but Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher wasn’t forced make a save.
Huerta found the back of the net in the 74th minute to seal Chicago’s victory. Daniela Collaprico found Huerta in the box and the forward headed the ball past Jane Campbell.

Four minutes later, Huerta nearly scored her second goal of the match. Her strike from inside the box was tipped over the bar by a leaping Campbell.

With the loss, the Dash now has a 0-1-2 record and are still in search of their first victory in 2018. Houston has a quick turnaround as they return to action on Sunday afternoon against the Orlando Pride at 4 pm CT.
