The Houston Dash are on the road to face Sky Blue FC on Saturday. 2018 has been a reset season for both squads as they both have a new head coach and a number of new faces on the roster. The game will be the first time that the Dash have face Carli Lloyd and Janine Beckie since THE trade that went down at the 2018 NWSL College Draft.
The Dash are coming off of a 2-0 loss to the North Carolina Courage. While the team finally had Kealia Ohai and Kyah Simon in the Starting XI it wasn’t enough the create the attack the Dash are lacking. Problems in the midfield continue to plague the team as they struggle to create chances or spend much time with the ball. Against North Carolina the Dash had only 35.9% possession in 90 minutes of play.
Saturday’s game saw Linda Motlhalo carried off the pitch by Rachel Daly after going down with a knee injury. This week she is out with a knee sprain while Sammy Jo Prudhomme is questionable with a left finger sprain.
Sky Blue FC were off last weekend, but tied their last game on April 21 against the Chicago Red Stars. Sky Blue gave up a goal to Chicago in the first minute of the game but were able to come back with an equalizer in the 78th minute to earn their first point of the season.
Both teams have struggled to get their 2018 seasons going. The Houston Dash are next to last in the NWSL standings with only Sky Blue FC below them. The Dash have just two points after five games. The Dash started their season off with back to back draws but are currently on a three game losing streak. The team is also sitting on the worst goal differential ( -6) in the league. Sky Blue FC have only played in three games this season which is the fewest of any team in the league. With a single draw to their name they are in last place in the standings.
Both teams need to get three points if they want to climb out of the basement of the standings and this may be the best chance for each of them to do that.
