Goalkeeper Tyler Deric is free to rejoin the Houston Dynamo after the league announced on Thursday that he has been reinstated. In conjunction with MLS’ announcement the Dynamo announced that he would be loaned to USL affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC.
Deric was suspended on November 1, 2017 after his arrest and charge of misdemeanor assault in connection with an alleged domestic assault. The court documents filed at the time alleged that Deric had headbutted his girlfriend. On May 22, 2018, the Harris County District Attorney entered into an Order of Deferred Adjudication and placed Deric on community supervision. Provided that Deric completes a year-long diversion program, all charges against Deric will be dismissed. The League reviewed this agreement and made the decision to allow Deric to rejoin the Dynamo provided he continues his compliance with the Order of Deferred Adjudication.
The suspension meant that Deric missed the Dynamo’s playoff run last season and all of the 2018 season to date, 19 games total. The Dynamo chose to re-sign the goalkeeper back in February despite the suspension.
According to the Dynamo release Derc’s loan to RGVFC has not yet been completed but is expected to be finalized in the coming days. The Toros are 1-6-9 this season.
