The Houston Dash couldn’t find their way past Seattle Reign FC as the team lost 3-1 on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. In the midst of a tight playoff push, Houston was unable to earn three key points, despite Amber Brooks scoring the opening goal of the match.
In the 12th minute, Amber Brooks capitalized on Sofia Huerta’s corner kick. Brooks beat a defender to the ball and angled her header towards the far post.

Seattle equalized in the 37th minute, as Megan Rapinoe and Jodie Taylor combined on a terrific attacking effort. Rapinoe launched a quick throw towards the box and Taylor received the ball between Houston’s backline and volleyed a chip over Jane Campbell and into the back of the net.

Seattle continued its offensive surge in the second half. In the 55th minute, Elizabeth Addo was fouled in the box and Rapinoe stepped up to that the penalty shot. Rapinoe calmly struck her finish into the top corner to provide Seattle with 2-1 lead.

Seattle finished the match leading in possession 60% to Houston’s 40%. Reign FC also outshot the Dash 7 to 4.
Allie Long ended any hopes for a Dash comeback netting Seattle’s third goal in the 85th minute. Rapinoe earned her second assist of the night finding Long behind Houston’s backline. Long finished the play with a left-footed strike past Campbell.

With the loss, Houston sits in seventh place in the standings (4-5-5, 17 points), eight points behind the Chicago Red Stars who hold the final playoff spot. While Seattle secure second place (7-3-5, 26 points) in the victory.
The Dash return to action on Wednesday night against the Orlando Pride at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm CT.
