It was a game with some back and forth between the Houston Dynamo and Orlando City SC but neither team was able to find the edge and walk away a winner. Houston managed to find the net in the game but it was overturned after a VAR review.
Romell Quioto found the back of the net in the 15th minute of the game and it looked like Houston had taken a 1-0 lead. Orlando goalkeeper Adam Grinwis went to grab the ball when an on running Quioto kicked the ball out of his hands and made his way to an open net. The goal went to video review and it was ruled a no goal and the scoreline reset to 0-0.
Houston dominated the opening minutes of the game but after the called back goal Orlando was able to get their foot in the door. They ended the first half with the majority of possession while the two teams each had two shots in the half.
In the second half neither team was able to get an edge in front of goal.
In the 70th minute it looked like Dom Dwyer might put the ball past Willis but the keeper popped the ball up in the air and grabbed it as it came back down. Dwyer’s header came off of a corner kick that was crossed into the box.
Both sides finished the game with 11 shots. Orlando dominated possession with 54.4% possession in the game. Willis came up with four saves in the game to help shut out Orlando. He denied Sacha Kljestan several time in front of goal.
While a draw is disappointing for Dynamo fans all eyes turn to Wednesday’s US Open Cup final against the Philadelphia Union. The game will be the first time that the men in orange have made it to a USOC final.
