The Houston Dynamo have had a relatively light schedule so far in 2019 if you don’t include the early season congestion with CONCACAF Champions League, but they’ve taken 3 points in 6 of their 8 regular season games that they’ve played. Their latest win came over in-state rivals FC Dallas and now they hope to continue their streak as they head to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Sounders.
Home field advantage is a huge thing in MLS and the Dynamo have never been a dominant team on the road. This season they handily beat the Colorado Rapids 4-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park then followed that up with a narrow 1-2 loss to the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Dynamo have had their fair share of injuries so far, but production from players like Adam Lundqvist, Oscar Boniek García, and Memo Rodríguez have helped ease players back from injury rather than rush them back into the starting XI before they’re 100%. For Wilmer Cabrera, this is a good problem to have.
Predicting the starting XI isn’t easy, but the forward positions aren’t too difficult to guess. Mauro Manotas at center forward and Alberth Elis on the right wing will definitely start. Memo Rodríguez had taken the starting job on the left wing with Romell Quioto recovering from a knee injury, but with Quioto back it’ll be interesting to see who gets the starting role. I would guess Memo given his recent success and with Quioto possibly not 90 minutes ready, but I could see the incumbent Quioto getting his position back.
In the midfield the easy predictions are Tomás Martínez in the attacking midfield position and Matías Vera somewhere behind him. I think Juan David Cabezas returning to the starting lineup to partner with Vera is inevitable, but Boniek has done very well and Cabrera may not want to start JDC against Seattle as they play on artificial turf so I’ll give the nod to Boniek since the system doesn’t appear broken yet.
Along the back line Adam Lundqvist should continue to take his spot as the replacement to DaMarcus Beasley with A.J. DeLaGarza lining up at right back. In central defense we should see the pairing of Maynor Figueroa and Kiki Struna with Joe Willis in goal.
