The Houston Dynamo return home following their 0-1 loss at CenturyLink Field to Seattle Sounders FC which was a bit of a mixed bag overall. Wednesday, they’ll face another team from the Pacific Northwest, the Portland Timbers, but this time they’ll be within the confines of BBVA Compass Stadium. With the short turnaround and another game coming up this weekend, it’ll be interesting to see what lineup Wilmer Cabrera puts out against the Timbers.
With a sudden busy schedule for the Dynamo, we could see a variety of lineups and regular starters getting fewer minutes. I think against Portland we’ll see Mauro Manotas at center forward with Alberth Elis on the right wing. Romell Quioto came off the bench in Seattle and we could see him get his first league start since the season opener against Real Salt Lake. We could see Memo Rodríguez start over Elis to rest the speedy Honduran’s legs, but I think that’s more likely against Saturday’s opponent D.C. United since they’re in the Eastern Conference.
In the midfield I think we’ll continue to see Tomás Martínez as the most attacking player, but the other spots are more difficult to predict. We’ve seen Matías Vera slot in seamlessly for Juan David Cabezas, but he could get a little rest this week and I think JDC will get the start. Darwin Cerén also got the start against the Sounders, but I have a feeling Oscar Boniek García will this week.
Defensively, I don’t think we’ll see too many changes. Adam Lundqvist should start at left back until DaMarcus Beasley returns. In central defense Kiki Struna missed out on the 0-1 loss Saturday due to a minor injury. He isn’t on the injury report so I think it may have been a precautionary measure since we have two games at home coming up. I think Struna is back with his CB partner Maynor Figueroa even though Alejandro Fuenmayor played well in his place. Lastly, we should expect A.J. DeLaGarza in goal with Joe Willis in goal.
