Houston Dash fall to visiting Red Stars

A brace from Sam Kerr down the Dash.

The first half was the only one that was needed for Houston’s 1-2 loss to the Chicago Red Stars. Both teams found goals in the first half and unfortunately for the home side the visitors found more.

It only took eight minutes in to the game for Sam Kerr to find the net. Michele Vasconcelos played a through ball to Kerr. She sent a left footed shot in the right corner of the goal to put the visiting team up early. Five minutes later it was Kerr scoring again to double the Red Stars lead. The Dash turned the ball over a midfield and the Red Stars put together a series of passes that ended with Kerr taking off with the ball. Once in the box she blasted a shot as Jane Campbell slid down to her knees as the ball went over her.

Sofia Huerta got a goal back for the Dash in the 26th minute of the game. The ball was played to Kayla McCoy who brought the ball down with her chest allowing Huerta to pick the ball up and run. Huerta found just the right angle to send it by the defender on her as well as Emily Boyd in goal making it 1-2.

Neither side was able to find the net in the second half as the Dash fell 1-2 to the Red Stars.

Chicago had 12 shots in the game with seven of those shots coming in the first half. Houston had nine shots in the game with five of them in the second half. The Dash’s defense improved in the second half preventing Chicago from getting anymore goals but they were also unable to find the net as they trailed.

The Dash are off until June 2 when they are on the road against the Seattle Reign.
