Saturday the Houston Dynamo host their biggest rival, FC Dallas. The game this weekend will be the first of two matchups between the clubs in the 2019 fight for El Capitan. Both clubs have started the season strong with Dallas sitting with a one point lead on the Dynamo in the Western Conference standings as they sit 4-5.
Last weekend the Dynamo defeated the Columbus Crew 2-0, getting their first shut out of the season. Mauro Manotas scored in the third minute of the game thanks to a well placed pass from Alberth Elis. Tomas Martinez doubled their lead early in the second half scoring a phenomenal goal off a rebound. Finally securing a shut out was a big confidence booster for the team.
Houston currently has a better goal differential than Dallas at +7 while Dallas’ sits at +5. While the Dynamo secured their first shut out of the season last weekend they allowed the Crew 19 shots in the game. Something that could prove dangerous against Dallas.
The team from the North is coming off a 0-0 draw against San Jose. They allowed San Jose 13 shots in the game while they were held to 11 shots. They have only lost one game in their last six games played. They have one of the youngest squads in the league that is relying heavily on Homegrown talent that is eager to show what they can do.
Last year Dallas came out the victor in the Texas Derby Battles thanks to a 4-2 win over Houston in their third match up of the season. That win means that El Capitan will be spending the 2019 season with Dallas, something the Dynamo would like to change for 2020. This year the two only play each other twice in the regular season with the second game happening in Frisco in late August.
Kick off is at 3 pm on Saturday.
