The Houston Dynamo are back at BBVA Compass Stadium where they’ve been unbeaten this season following a disappointing 0-1 loss on the road to Minnesota United FC. Up next is a visit from rivals Sporting Kansas City. I outlined some of the intensity from the matches last season in the Match Preview, but to sum it up, in 2 regular season games the Dynamo had 4 players see a red card. This should be an exciting match.
For Wilmer Cabrera, he has a number of players returning from injury, but a few people still remain sidelined. The biggest question is about the health of Alberth Elis who suffered a concussion against D.C. United a couple weeks back. Romell Quioto also exited early against the Loons last week, but Victor Araiza reported both are training. While Elis remains on the injury report, I don’t have him pegged to start, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Quioto get the starting call. Mauro Manotas should be a lock at center forward and I think we’ll see Memo Rodríguez in for Elis. Hopefully, Elis will be available and see action off the bench.
#HOUvSKC notes: Alberth Elis and Romell Quioto have been training with the first team. Maynor Figueroa is also back with the team, just in time it seems as Alejandro Fuenmayor has been added to the @MLS injury report. #ForeverOrange https://t.co/U1Bn5dg68E— Victor Araiza (@victoraraiza) May 30, 2019
In the midfield Tomás Martínez should continue to see starting minutes as the number 10. Glenn Davis reported that what’s been keeping 2017 team MVP Juan David Cabezas off the field and out of the starting lineup was the performances of Matías Vera and Oscar Boniek García. I think Vera and Boniek get the start although I do think Cabezas will eventually displace Boniek.
Spoke to Wilmer Cabrera @HoustonDynamo today about limited minutes for Juan David Cabezas (only 23) and he said Cabezas being kept off field due to performances of @boniek1426 and Matias Vera. #SoccerMatters #ForeverOrange— Glenn Davis (@GlennDavisSoc) May 30, 2019
Defensively we should see DaMarcus Beasley start at left back. He did not have a strong performance against MNUFC and if he finally starts showing his age Adam Lundqvist will begin to get more starts over the USMNT legend. In central defense Alejandro Fuenmayor was put on the injury report for an undisclosed reason and now is off it. I think even if he were healthy the preferred tandem in central defense is Kiki Struna and Maynor Figueroa. At right back we should expect A.J. DeLaGarza with Joe Willis in goal.
