RGV FC Toros face playoff hopes in derby game
This might be Copa Tejas week aka South Texas Derby week for RGV FC, but this has major playoff implications. A win for either side would mean a huge difference. A win for the Toros would mean keeping pace with the other contenders. A loss means a huge dent to the aspirations and near the elimination line.
The opponent: San Antonio FC (8-6-9)
The Toros are historically 5-3-3 against San Antonio and 2-1-2 on the road. The last time they met the Toros defeated their rival 3-1 at H-E-B Park earlier this season. Last time the teams played each other in San Antonio it ended in a one all draw to end their 2018 season out of the playoffs.
The players to look out for are Jack Barmby, Frank Lopez, Billy Forbes, and Christian Parano. Each of the players have been productive in their last six games, however the team’s last home game was a loss to Sacramento.
Keys for the Toros to win on the road
The Toros played so much better in their last road game which ended in a last minute draw to Colorado Springs. Despite going down two goals in the first 20 minutes the team showed plenty of determination to comeback. They made the comeback to make a 3-2 game until the dying minutes of stoppage time they gave up the late equalizer. So defending set pieces and solidly through all 90 minutes is a must.
The key players for RGV FC for the South Texas Derby are Isidro Martinez, Andres Arcila, and Kevin Rodriguez. All three players have played a key part in starting the offense and must continue to elevate their play. It has been done the last few weeks but now even more when the post-season hopes are on the line.
