Pick the Houston Dynamo Starting Lineup against the Vancouver Whitecaps

Who should Davy Arnaud start against the Whitecaps?

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Houston Dynamo Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Dynamo snapped a seven game winless streak earlier this week with an impressive 2-0 win over Minnesota United FC at BBVA Stadium. Prior to that midweek win, their last win came in Canada when they defeated Toronto FC on July 20th so it’s only fitting that the team is headed north of the border again to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Against the Loons the Dynamo featured many players that hadn’t seen a lot of minutes including Alejandro Fuenmayor who had an outstanding off the line clearance to help the team keep its clean sheet. The reason for many of these players getting the starting call was due to international call-ups with Kiki Struna, Maynor Figueroa, Alberth Elis, and Darwin Cerén all spending time with their respective national teams. It’s unclear at this time if interim manager Davy Arnaud will have these players back, but I think if they do make the trip, they come off the bench.

Up top there are several options for Arnaud to go to, but I think we see him go back to the front group we saw against Minnesota with Mauro Manotas as the CF, Christian Ramirez on the left wing, and Tommy McNamara on the right. Romell Quioto has had a falling out with the club not even making the bench so I wouldn’t think he gets a look even with a short turnaround following the midweek game.

In the midfield we saw a few injuries earlier this week, but it looks like only Juan David Cabezas made the updated injury report. That means Tomás Martínez is likely to start as the number 10 with Oscar Boniek García and Matías Vera behind him.

Along the back line we should expect the same group of DaMarcus Beasley, Alejandro Fuenmayor, Kevin Garcia, and Adam Lundqvist with Joe Willis in goal.

My Projected Starting Lineup:

Of course with international players back, we would see a lineup more closely looking like this.
