The results of the Dynamo Theory five-a-side fantasy draft were posted on Monday, and now it’s my turn to break down my selections. I need to explain my thinking behind these picks so you all vote for me after every team makes their case. I have no time for second place!
My first pick was Alberth Elis, then I went with DaMarcus Beasley, Boniek Garcia, Giles Barnes, and finished it up with Tyler Deric. I wanted some flair on this time and I think I did pretty well in achieving that. With a five-a-side team I was looking for guys who can win some individual battles and impress the fans at the same time. Here’s why I took each of my guys.
Alberth Elis
An argument could be made that Elis is the fastest player to ever put on the orange in Houston and his athleticism is unmatched. The Honduran can fly in open space but is also deadly in close quarters, which will come in handy for a five-a-side match. With 30 goals and 24 assists in his MLS career Elis can both score and set up. He was a no-brainer pick for me with my first selection.
DaMarcus Beasley
How can you pass on a legend in the second round? I couldn’t. Beasley’s traits as a defender paired with his ability to get forward and join an attack make him a great addition to the team. With Elis on one side and DMB on the other, we are hoping to cause some headaches for our opposition.

Boniek Garcia
Our Swiss Army knife, El Presidente can play wherever we need him to. We may have him in the back to start but Boniek can play a role in the midfield if we need him. Heck, he may even go up top and bag us a few goals. I couldn’t pass on someone who is probably my favorite player of the recent Dynamo teams. Now who do we give the captain’s armband to?
Giles Barnes
Barnes was one of the only true “number 10s” the Dynamo have had since the good ol’ days of Dwayne De Rosario. We will probably use the Jamaican international in the middle of the park to get on the end of balls from Elis and maintain possession for our side. Another player with flair and the ability to score and create, I felt like Giles was a great pick in the fourth round.

Tyler Deric
Well, we pretty much got stuck with Deric here in the final round. The other teams had all picked their goalkeepers and with no disrespect to Tony Caig, Zach Wells, or Chris Seitz, Deric was the only option. So hey, welcome to the team Tyler!
Strengths
Like I said earlier, I wanted this team to have some flair. This team has speed and the ability to create goals from anywhere. We are definitely going to find the back of the net often. On the other hand...
Weaknesses
We’re going to give up quite a few goals as well. Beasley is our only real defender and he took on that role later in his career. We might get ripped to shreds in the middle of the park but hopefully we can come out on the positive end of some 6-5 scorelines.
