The Houston Dash bolstered their roster on a quality 2015 NWSL Draft Day by first drafting the highly coveted Morgan Brian number one overall, by drafting defender Carleigh Williams, and by trading one of their draft picks to the Portland Thorns FC for Jessica McDonald.
The Dash sent their second round pick, 13th overall, to Portland for McDonald. The Thorns then sent the pick along with their 2016 2nd round pick to the Washington Spirit for English forward Jodie Taylor.
McDonald was drafted 15th overall in the 2010 draft by the Chicago Red Stars and played 5 games before suffering an injury before the Red Stars halted operations in 2010. McDonald then travelled to the Australian league to play for Melbourne Victory FC before rejoining the Red Stars in 2013. After being waived by the Red Stars she was picked up by the Seattle Reign and enjoyed a successful run scoring 3 goals in 7 appearances. McDonald is coming off a career year with the Portland Thorns as she finished first in her club in scoring and 3rd in the NWSL where she was able to score 11 goals in 24 appearances.
How Randy Waldrum will employ his new forward is mystery at this time, but given McDonald's fantastic run in 2014, she'll likely see plenty of time on the field.
