After competing in and winning the inaugural SheBelieves Cup earlier this month, Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian returned to training for the Houston Dash only to be called up again for a couple of friendlies later in April.
Lloyd and Brian were named to the United State’s Women’s National Team roster that is set to face Columbia on April 6 and April 10 in a pair of friendly matches. The last time the teams met was at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 where the U .S. shut out Columbia 2-0 with goals from Lloyd and Alex Morgan.
Earlier this year, Lloyd and Brian both played significant roles on the USWNT during the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament. With two assists from Brian and a goal from Lloyd in a 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago to punch their ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics, the USWNT eventually went on to win the entire tournament in a 2-0 final over Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium. Brian also won the Golden Ball in recognition of her outstanding play throughout the tournament.
Lloyd has earned 220 caps for the national team where she has scored 86 international goals and is, rightfully so, the current FIFA Women’s Player of the Year. Brian, at just 23-years-old, has 51 appearances for the United States and four goals.
Both players continue to be trailblazers in both international play and NWSL play as Brian appeared 10 times in her rookie season with three assists and Lloyd started in 12 appearances for the Dash last season where she had four goals; three of which were game winning.
Just 10 days following the friendlies between the USWNT and Columbia, the Houston Dash will open up their 2016 NWSL campaign at home against the Chicago Red Stars with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. where the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cali Lloyd bobblehead.
