The Dynamo earned a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire with the goals coming just minutes apart. Strong play from Hall and wide play stood out in this match. Here are your Dynamo player ratings for the match.

Houston Dynamo Player Ratings:

Tally Hall (7) - Tally Hall put in a great effort notching 5 saves including a difficult aerobatic save against Chris Rolfe in the 76th minute. Hall commanded his line pretty well against a physical and well rounded Chicago offense. He can't be too faulted on the goal, aside from communicating about Magee's drifting inside and of course Ashe was the one that lost the ball.

Kofi Sarkodie (6) - HRH did well to move the ball up the field to Boniek Garcia, but had some trouble containing Joel Lindpere early on.

Jermaine Taylor (5.5) - Taylor was back in at center back after filling in for Ashe at left back, and he played pretty well. Not great because he had his hands full with Rolfe and Magee, but he was caught out of position on the goal.

Bobby Boswell (6) - Boswell's "offside" goal really should have stood in my opinion, but his work as an anchor in the back helped contain and neutralize a very threatening Chicago attacking side. The Boz was also not afraid to get physical in a fairly physical match.

Corey Ashe (6) - Ashe struggled to get forward for stretches of the game, but when he did it mattered as he got the ball to Davis who found Weaver for the opening goal of the match. Nyarko vs Ashe was also talked about as the matchup that could decide the game and in a play Ashe lost the ball to Nyarko who found Magee for the 2nd goal of the match - deciding that the game should be a draw.

Ricardo Clark (6) - Clark struggled to get the attack involved, and often had to backtrack in order to cover for Moffat. Clark's replacement, Creavalle found much more success moving the ball out wide. Clark's defensive presence was good, but he wasn't much of an offensive threat.

Adam Moffat (5) - Moffat had a relatively poor showing, as he missed tackles, gave the ball away too often, and couldn't control the center of the field. He did have one great pass to Corey Ashe that set up the Dynamo's only goal.

Oscar Boniek Garcia (6.5) - Boniek was his usual spark-like self that helped the offense have punch. His dribbling was fantastic as was his passing both represented in the lead up to our goal.

Andrew Driver (-) - Driver left the match in just the 15th minute due to injury. Get well soon Driver!

Giles Barnes (6) - Barnes really does not look comfortable at the Forward spot anymore. Barnes tended to drift inside to the middle and when he did he looked much more confident and much better overall.

Cam Weaver (6.5) - Weaver had the most chances on goal over any other player on the field and looked much better than his last showing. His goal was a simple tap in, but his reaction said it all - let's hope his draught is over and he starts raining in more goals.

The Subs:

Brad Davis, MotM, (7.5) - Davis came on for Driver early and played a great game. He was everywhere creating chances, beating opponents on the dribble, making great passes, allowing Ashe to overlap, and getting back on defense. He notched an assist and did well to create plenty of problems for Chicago.

Warren Creavalle (6.5) - Creavalle came on for Ricardo Clark just before the 70th minute and really pushed the offense. He read the central field well intercepting passes, and made very good passes to players making a run at goal.

Jason Johnson (5.5) JJ came on for Weaver in the 79th minute and his legs looked a little wobbly/nervous. He didn't see too much of the ball, but he managed to fire a ball after a great lead up right at the keeper.

Coach Dominic Kinnear (6) - The Dom didn't intend to use Davis for as long as he did, but seeing Davis and Boniek on the field together was something positive to take away from the game. A forward scored for the first time since May 8th which was also good news. The bad news is another defensive fluke took away needed points at home and finishing continues to be a pressing issue. Our players take too long in front of goal waiting for the "perfect" moment to shoot - or at least it seems that way, and nothing comes of it. Some good, some bad overall, but this result weighs a bit more in my mind than the usual draw.

Misc. Rating - Ricardo Salazar (2) - Flop of the Match! He really let things get too physical and consecutive obvious fouls against Brad Davis stand out how he let this game go. Davis could have been hurt which, if he had, I would not forgive Sally. Then there is the disallowed goal because Boswell was offside which turns out to be suspect. Magee's goal, which was onside, was closer to being off than Boz's. He just couldn't control this game.

The Dynamo battled to a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire with goals coming from Cam Weaver and Mike Magee.

The Dynamo looked to earn 3 points at home but was forced to settle for 1 point at BBVA Compass Stadium against the Chicago Fire Saturday night. The 1-1 draw shows to Dynamo fans that perhaps we're not quite out of the woods yet as finishing continues to be an issue. Cam Weaver scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute. Weaver's goal was the first scored by a Dynamo forward in league play since May 8th, a game in which they scored 3 of the 4 goals against DC United. The Dynamo's moment of joy was spoiled less than 2 minutes later by the relentless Mike Magee.

Dynamo fans held their breath as Andrew Driver, a key player throughout the year, went down with a right Achilles injury in the 14th minute. News about his injury is slowly coming out and we'll have more information about it as it becomes available. The Chicago Fire were also forced to make an early substitution due to injury to Brazilian midfielder Alex.

One of the biggest controversies of the game came before the half in the 18th minute when Corey Ashe picked out Bobby Boswell. Boswell headed the ball into the far corner of the goal, only to have the goal immediately called back for being offside. Center official Ricardo Salazar didn't win over any more Dynamo fans as Dynamo stalwart Brad Davis, who replaced Driver, was likely fouled twice in succession in the 22nd minute.

In the dying minutes of the first half, a poor pass backwards to Fire goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi saw Weaver attempt to slot it into the net, however Tornaghi wasn't caught flat footed and was quicker to the ball. Both teams went to the locker rooms after a very physical first half with the Dynamo having more chances but nothing to show for it except an offside goal.

The second half was a more of the same until Weaver and Magee exchanged goals. Weaver's goal saw a beautiful cross from Moffat that found Corey Ashe on the left. Ashe threaded a ball to Davis who beat his man with a single touch and he found Weaver for the goal. Magee's goal began with Ashe losing the ball to Patrick Nyarko, who then drove in a low cross to Magee, who beat Kofi Sarkodie and tapped the shot home.

After these goals both teams were hungry and pushed for chances on goal. Warren Creavalle came on in the 69th minute and helped push the ball into space and he nearly chipped the Fire keeper as well. Both teams had chances, and both teams missed. Chris Rolfe forced Tally Hall to make a difficult save in the 76th minute while the next minute Giles Barnes fired a shot right at Tornaghi. Rookie Jason Johnson nearly broke through in the 83rd minute, but his shot was also right at the keeper.

The draw puts the Dynamo in 6th place in the Eastern Conference. They are level with New England in points, 30, but do not have the tie-breaker advantage. The match wrapped up a successful month of July, the Dynamo going 3-0-1 in all competitions. Next up is the Columbus Crew on Saturday August 3rd at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Crew sit 2 places below the Dynamo at 23 points and will look to come back after a late 2-1 loss to Toronto FC.

Houston Dynamo midfielder Andrew Driver suffered an injury to his right Achilles tendon early in Saturday night's 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire.

On a day where the full three points would be necessary to keep pace in the Eastern Conference, the Houston Dynamo were only able to manage a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire at BBVA Compass Stadium. After an 18th minute goal by Bobby Boswell was called back for offside, Cam Weaver scored in the 61st minute to give the Dynamo the lead. Just two minutes later, however, Mike Magee pulled the Fire even, and Chicago keeper Paolo Tornaghi made several saves in the late stages of the match to deny the Dynamo the winning goal.

Perhaps just as worrisome as the outcome was the cost it might have come at. Dynamo midfielder Andrew Driver was forced to exit the game in just the fourteenth minute with an injured right Achilles, the severity of which is not yet known. We'll have more on Driver when it's known, and it's hopeful that he won't have to miss too much time.

The draw drops the Dynamo back to sixth place in the East. Their next match will be on Saturday, August 3 at BBVA Compass.

Mike Magee is just one player to keep an eye on for Saturday's match against the Chicago Fire according to Sean Spence of Hot Time in Old Town. | USA TODAY Sports

For the upcoming match on Saturday against the Chicago Fire, Fuzion sat down with Sean Spence from Hot Time in Old Town to ask a few "burning" questions.

1) While early in the season the Fire struggled mightily, the absolute coup of acquiring Mike Magee from the hated LA Galaxy has helped turn the season around. Do you feel Magee might be enough to put the Fire into the playoffs, or are they still a player or two away?

The feeling around the Fire is that they are definitely a player or two away from being a contender. The roster, as constituted, is likely good enough to contend for, and possibly win, a playoff spot, but serious deficiencies remain. Specifically, the back line is one injury or suspension from disaster - the primary backup in the center is Jalil Anibaba, who starts at right back. We have trialed former Fire man Yamith Cuesta but seem to be stalling signing him. The front office has addressed these problems by signing a third target striker. It's bizarre. But, yes, this roster could make the playoffs.

2) Speaking of being a player away - word travels fast these days, and the new Chicago Striker Designated Player is no exception. Even though I don't think we should expect to see him start (or if he does to contribute a whole lot already), what do the Fire fans think of him and what should the league expect to see from him?

I think Fire fans are, at this point, extremely cautious with their expectations for foreign signings. We have signed and moved on more players in the last two years than the Dynamo have burned through in five. That said, Juan Luis Anangono is absolutely the kind of player everyone's looking for - just entering his prime, on the edge of his national team, hungry to move up. I am encouraged by the positive opinion Alfredo Cuvi expressed about him - Cuvi's seen Anangono play in Ecuador, and thinks the acquisition a good one. I defer to Mr. Cuvi and am optimistic.

As to what you will see from him, he's very much a modern #9, Drogba-lite. Strong, mobile, good in the air, finishes simply. I think we will see a tactical shift based around Arangono as the point of the spear in a few weeks, once he's bedded in with the squad. For now, if we get his ITC, you're looking at maybe a 15-minute sub appearance against the Dynamo - he's not in game shape yet.

3) The Dynamo have struggled offensively at times, and have had a few mental lapses defensively every game. Who should the Dynamo worry about capitalizing on those mistakes most?

Funny you should ask that - I wrote a piece this week about the Fire's tactical changes to accomodate the tiny striking pair of Rolfe and Magee. In it, I conclude that their success is largely down to the difficult mental challenges they pose defenders when working together. Both are on form. If your defense has a tough day mentally, Magee and Rolfe will make it miserable - they'll pull the defense apart and finish the simple chances that result. That said, if your centerbacks communicate well and don't switch off, it makes things much harder for Chicago.

Lineup and prediction:

Chicago should run out an almost unchanged side from DC. Dilly Duka is likely out, but Patty Nyarko's gotten over his strep throat, so that's a straight swap there. Paolo Tornaghi continues to deputize for Sean Johnson, who's still with the Gold Cup squad. We could see Danny Paladini or Logan Pause in central midfield, but Alex has played well in the box-to-box role, so I'm guessing he starts again.

Starting XI - Paolo Tornaghi; Gonzalo Segares, Bakary Soumare, Austin Berry, Jalil Anibaba; Joel Lindpere, Alex, Jeff Larentowicz, Patrick Nyarko; Chris Rolfe, Mike Magee.

Prediction: 2-2 draw. Magee and Rolfe are hard to shut down.

After a weekend off and a successful Charities Cup match, the Houston Dynamo return to league action Saturday night when they host the Chicago Fire for the second time this season. In their first meeting, the Dynamo eked out a 2-1 win. Will round two be more of the same?

With the Charities Cup behind us in the form of a 2-0 victory over EPL side Stoke City, the Houston Dynamo get set to continue league play this Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. After a bye last weekend, the Dynamo will face the Chicago Fire for the second time this season. Their first meeting this season is definitely well remembered, a 2-1 Dynamo victory here in Houston that broke the MLS record for longest home unbeaten streak across all competitions.

Since then, many things have changed. The Dynamo side of things we know well - including a surprising 2-2-1 at home since that victory and a seven match winless streak in league play that has raised some as of yet fully unanswered questions. That being said, two league victories plus Wednesday night's win over a Stoke City playing its first preseason friendly have given the Dynamo something to build up. To do so, however, they'll have to get past a Chicago side that has seen a lot of improvement since the Dynamo last saw them in April.

What's changed for the Fire, you may ask? It all starts with one man: Mike Magee. It's been almost exactly two months since he came to his hometown side in a trade for Robbie Rogers, and the Fire have emulated their name, going 8-2-2 across all competitions in that time. Magee has six goals in eight league matches with the Fire (he had six in ten appearances with the Galaxy before the trade). He hasn't scored in bunches, but he's been consistent in a way that strikers dream of.

With Magee providing a spark, a team that had added Joel Lindpere, Jeff Larentowicz and Maicon Santos, among others, heated up, and only good form by the clubs ahead of them in the tables has kept them out of the playoff picture so far. Though they've cooled off a little (key phrase here is "a little") since their post-trade run, they still only sit five points out of the fifth place spot in the Eastern Conference.

While the addition of Ecuadorian striker Juan Luis Anangono may provide the Fire with yet another spark, as of this moment, the Fire have yet to receive his paperwork, meaning that it's extremely unlikely that the Dynamo will see him this time around. Still, the players mentioned above are enough, and with Chicago, one must always also watch for Chris Rolfe and Daniel Paladini (returning from suspension) as well. The one bright spot for the Dynamo in this regard is the fact that Fire keeper Sean Johnson remains with the national team as they prepare for Sunday's final.

On the Dynamo side, Will Bruin is still with the national team as well, though as I mentioned earlier this week, Corey Ashe has returned to the fold. Another return that Dynamo fans were happy to see was Brad Davis, who got 24 minutes of play in on Wednesday. Jason Johnson saw playing time against Stoke, as did Bryan Salazar (officially, Salazar saw a single minute), and Johnson's performance might have fans clamoring to see him in a league match - especially since Omar Cummings seems to be injured again. With Bruin away, the Dynamo's sketchy depth at striker gets even thinner, so if Johnson can play minutes at the league level, it might be time to give him more minutes (he has 121 total over five league matches this season).

Wednesday's match may have been a friendly, but there were signs to be glad of. For the first time since May, Giles Barnes and Andrew Driver - two players who helped carry the Dynamo earlier in the season - scored. Driver's was a set piece goal, which is something that Dynamo fans haven't seen much of this season (at least in our favor). Barnes scored off the run of play, and while it won't go on any official stats this season, it might turn out to be a very important goal where his confidence is concerned. Yes, it was very early in the preseason for Stoke, but what little I saw of Tyler Deric makes me glad that he's our backup keeper. I'm not yet sure whether or not I'd trust him all the time with the first team, but the prospect of losing Tally Hall isn't as panic inducing, knowing that Deric is waiting in the wings.

This will be a mid-season match between two clubs close to each other in the table. Both are relatively close to optimal rosters, and both are riding momentum. While it won't have the same do-or-die implications as their postseason meeting last October, it should be a well-played contest. A win for the Dynamo gives them 32 points and keeps them right in the thick of the Eastern Conference. One always hopes for wins at home, but like I always say: there's no such thing as a given three points in this sport. One thing is for sure: only ninety minutes on the pitch of BBVA Compass Stadium will tell us what the Dynamo will take from this match.
